Course Summary

This collaborative professional learning program will provide opportunities for teachers at all levels to address the challenge of reaching and teaching all students. Participating teachers will learn to:
  • Motivate and engage students by appealing to their unique needs and abilities
  • Use differentiated instructional strategies to support the success of all students
  • Design student- centered lessons around instructional activities that are academically, emotionally, and behaviorally engaging
  • Develop critical thinking skills in students through effective use of formative assessment strategies and giving clear feedback that enhances learning
 
Aims of the Course

This workshop aims to look at the following areas regarding differentiated Instruction methodology in language education:
 
  • Differentiation in Mixed-Ability Classrooms
  • Promoting Student Ownership of Learning Outcomes
  • Designing Assessments that Support Learning
  • Planning Student-Driven Learning
  • Motivating & Engaging Students
The final stage of this program will enable participating teachers to use a variety of strategies to monitor student learning, communicate high standards, and measure evidence of learning; provide effective feedback in ways that motivate and engage students; understand positive, negative, and neutral constructive feedback practices, including common mistakes and best practices; and create opportunities for their students to engage in the transformative educational practices of self-monitoring, self-assessment, and peer-assessment.

Course Instructor-JT Rehill, M.S.Ed.



JT Rehill has been working as a consultant, trainer, teacher, and coach for more than twenty years. As founder of Learning Advanced, he works with schools throughout Turkey and the surrounding region to implement and manage programs on performance improvement, instructional coaching, leadership development, and school culture transformation. He holds his Master of
Science in Education from Wilkes University, is a RIVA-trained focus group moderator, certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) administrator, CELTA-certified English Language Instructor, and has completed the Erickson Professional Coach training program to compliment his experience as a professional coach.
In addition to serving as an Adjunct Professor with Wilkes University’s Graduate School of Education—teaching graduate courses in Educational Psychology, Philosophy of Education and Comparative Foundations of Education—he is pursuing his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and regularly contributes his passion for learning at education conferences, with recent talks at the ECIS Annual Educators Conference, TEDxYouth@Kiev International School, and the Kosova Learning Summit.
